By the time this message reaches you both adult steam rooms should have been
re-tiled and put back into service, including the vanity area at the Men's Adult
bathroom (re-tiled floor). Thank you for your patience during this undertaking
but, as you know, things wear out and we must keep up. Five new treadmills have
been placed into service in our cardio workout room. Several of the old machines
were seeing the end of their useful life and it was time to bite the bullet
and replace them all before servicing became a major problem.
Thanks for the positive comments on our new flat screen TV's. They've certainly
added to the enjoyment throughout our club. Member Laurie Manning, pastor of
Skyline Community Church (SCC), is sponsoring a Ride for Aids on May 17th, 3:00
- 4:30 PM. Dr. Domonick Wegesin, yoga instructor at OHTC, will be involved,
too. For complete details go online at http://www.skylineucc.org/. SCC is located
just up the street from the club on Skyline Blvd, 12540 Skyline Blvd., Oakland.
Good luck! More information elsewhere in this newsletter. David and Soo Choi
will be opening the snack bar for the season on April 25. I, for one, will be
looking forward to their fabulous food. Join me!
The reopening of the snack bar always marks the start of better weather. The
baby pool will be open approximately April 25 and, with all pools brought into
service, I ask your help. Keeping up with demand for towels at peak season is
always a problem. If you would bring your beach towels when using the pool this
would do much to aleviate our delima. Running out of towels is always an embarrasment,
but our towel service and out storage are limited. Your cooperation and understanding
are appreciated.
USTANORCAL teams have been formed and the season is underway. If you would still
like to join contact Rosina Cortesi, Social Director, and she will point you
in the right direction.
Our membership promotion is underway for the month of May. Remember, if you
sponsor a new member in advance of their joining you receive a months dues waived.
If you wait until after they join without notifying the club it's too late.

The summer camp registration is in full swing. The camp begins in two months
and I am sure several of the sessions will be full by summer as parents begin
to figure out their summer plans. Camp brochures can be picked up at the front
desk or you can go to my website at
www.tenniswithjerryconrad.com to download a copy. Please email me if you
have any questions (jerryconrad27@yahoo.com) or call me at 262-9955. I did find
one error in my brochure that I need to mention. I incorrectly thought that
July 4th was on a Friday. Apparently, someone moved it to Saturday. As a result,
there is no ten percent discount for session 2.
The after school junior tennis clinics will continue in May for five more weeks.
We would be happy to have your child come on out and begin to learn how to play
this fun game. Tuesdays are for beginners and advanced beginners while the Wednesday
group plays at or near the intermediate level. Juniors ages 7 to 15 can participate
and learn with their friends. These clinics are a great way to get prepared
for the summer camp if your child is concerned that they are not as "good" as
their friends. Applications are at the front desk or you can contact me for
details.
Private tennis lessons for individuals or groups are available by simply calling
us at the club. Please contact Jerry Conrad at 262-9955 or jerryconrad27@yahoo.com.
Bill Merida can be contacted at 482-0645 and Jan Brogan is available at janbrogan@yahoo.com.
I am sure one of us will be able to get your game into shape.

The Body Part for the Month of May is the Shoulders:If you want to build and/or
strengthen muscles in your shoulders and upper back, you should know that the
shoulder joint is a ball-and-socket joint, much like the hip. However, the shoulder
is much more sensitive and a greater risk of injury. Training with proper form,
in a multidirectional environment, decreases the risk. Train smart, with or
without a trainer and these muscles will grow. The shoulder muscles consist
of the trapezoid, deltoid, and rotary cuff. For more information on the Shoulder
see the Fitness Bulletin Board or contact a Personal Trainer to learn proper
exercises and proper form.
· The Winner of the March Luck-of-the-Irish Contest for a Personal Training
Session goes to Jan Donnelly. Congratulations Jan! Thank you to all of you who
participated!
Personal Training is $70 for 60 minutes or $50 for 30 minutes. Packages also
available. Please call David or Ilene at 531-3300 ext 12. Happy Mother's Day!

. Great news for Pilates enthusiasts. Starting Monday, May 4, we will offer
an additional Pilates class. Thank you for responding to the interest survey.
Over 90% of respondents asked for a Pilates class in late afternoon. Lets make
the class a permanent success and be active participants. You will be in very
good hands under the direction of Erica Belle, our new Pilates instructor and
latest addition to our group exercise staff. Erica Wright Belle began her study
of Pilates as a dance major in college. She used Pilates as a way of fine tuning
her dance skills. As an adult, Erica found Pilates to be a healing practice
that corrected imbalances and alleviated pain after her pregnancy. She became
a certified instructor to deepen her understanding of the body and to share
this amazing information with others. Erica holds a Bachelor of Arts in dance
with a concentration in performance and choreography from San Francisco State
University. In addition to her Pilates practice, she is a married mother of
a 3 years old daughter. Erica received her certification from ITT Pilates under
Jean Sullivan.
Regretfully, in order to be able to add a new class to our schedule, we had
to cancel the Yoga class on Thursday at 6:00 AM due to low attendance.
