President's Message

Oh yes, the start of another new year. Why does it always seem that we start
a year and, before you know it, it ends and another begins? My only lament is
that this process is accelerating now that I've reached super senior status.
Eight grandchildren pushes the issue, too. At least my wife and I are enjoying
good health; there really is a good side if you look hard enough for it. USTANORCAL
leagues will begin soon. Signups are up and we'd love to have you on a team.
If you want to play, but don't know how to go about it, contact Rosina Cortesi,
Social Director, and she will set you on the right path.
The new dues schedule is published elsewhere in this newsletter. It reflects
a 3% increase, approximately the rate of inflation. You are encouraged to consider
paying 1 year in advance - an 8.3% discount is your reward if you do. You must
act no later than February 10, 2008. Historically, approximately 30% of our
membership takes advantage of this option each year.
Most of the big improvement projects were completed in 2007. We do have some
parking lot re paving and striping set for this Spring and a little more dry
rot replacement, but 2008 should be relatively undisturbed. I sure hope there
are no undetected projects waiting in the background.
Last December our pool acted up a little. It seems the pool isn't happy without
a little hiccup now and then. Some electronics, the pool sweeper and a few other
items have been addressed. Hopefully, I'm hoping we will float for a while (pardon
the pun).
My staff and I are very grateful to you for all your support. The club continues
to experience a very low turnover while maintaining an almost full complement.
Industry wise, we're a phenomenon - very few clubs can boast a 10% attrition
rate; ours is a little less. I like to think that is because of the makeup of
our members - very strong on families and a close community atmosphere. Certainly,
this new year will present challenges. My staff and I are here to meet those
challenges, keep you involved, active and healthy.
2002 New Dues Schedule
Effective February 1, 2006 the following will be the new dues schedule:

| Individual $141.00 | Individual $106 |
| Couple $186.00 | Couple $141.50 |
| Family $222.50 | Family $172.00 |
Pay one year's dues in advance by Feb. 10, 2007 and one month's dues free!
No discounts will be given after February 10. Year's dues paid in advance is
not refundable. Call Wil,our bookkeeper to make arrangements.

the haste shopping these swimmers still found time to swim over 100 laps: Renee
Reynolds, 325; David Galant, 180; Bob Litchenstein, 150! Those getting close
with 90 laps are Lelia Shunick, Mark Seleznow and Rich Edwards. Yeah to all
the Water Aerobic Participants who continuously go out in the cold and have
their class!

The junior tennis team finished another fine season with a record of 7 wins
and 3 losses. The after school program will start again in early February as
I will be unavailable for lessons. Please look for applications at the front
desk or in the mail. Please email me (jerryconrad27@yahoo.com) if you want more
information or application. Congratulations to all our members who were "bumped"
up a level by the USTA league computer. Keep up the hard work! I will be either
on vacation or having another eye surgery this holiday season. I can't stress
enough having your eyes checked for glaucoma as this is a very silent disease.
I will contact all my current students and let them know my status for teaching
this Winter!
Fitness Facts
Val Collins, Director
elcome 2008, Your Best Year Ever! Start to make healthy exercise choices beginning
today! To make it easier for you, commit to just 30-minutes each day initially--combining
cardio and weights. Build up your time as you become more fit. Once you feel
ready, add one or two additional exercises.
You may wonder "which machine is the best for cardiovascular training?"
I suggest you choose the one you hate the least! Ideally, after 30 minutes of
time on your favorite cardio station,(such as the Elliptical, AMT, Treadmill,
Bike, etc) top off your routine with 20-30 minutes of weight training. To get
maximum benefits, focus on working out the larger muscle groups.
Most of the muscle mass in the body lies in the trunk, thighs, chest, back &
abs. Targeting these areas will give you "the biggest bang for your buck" so
to speak. Perform cardiovascular every day, either on machinery or by walking/jogging.
Weight lifting should be performed every other day, either with machinery or
free weights.
To obtain the best results, hire a personal trainer to create a new program
for a new you!
For an appointment, write David Blaschka or Val Collins via email val@oaklandhills.com
or call extension 12.
Back Care Class Added Beginning Tuesday, January 8, we are adding a fourth class
to our schedule. Anette Dahl continues as our instructor extraordinaire. Please
note: Tuesday only class time is 8:00-8:45 am. All other class times remain
the same. (Tuesday's level will be similar to Monday beginning level).

Making Massage a New Year's Resolution
Make massage your monthly resolution for a healthier New Year. Now that the
hustle bustle of the holidays are over, take some downtime for yourself with
therapeutic massage. Reserving time once a month for any type of massage or
bodywork we offer at the Club will provide many benefits such as: increased
circulation, moisturizing dry skin, stress relief, release of toxins from overeating,
caffeine and alcohol; calming your nervous system, mental clarity, increased
flexibility, enhancing muscle tone, pain relief, general relaxation and sense
of well being. Thank you to all our members who purchased gift certificates
and holiday specials. We know your loved ones will enjoy their healthy gifts.
Group Exercise
Luciana Fair, Director
Happy New Year- Happy New You! Here we go again. A new year means it's time
to start exercising....again.
Although this is an admirable resolution, it is a simple fact that the majority
of those rushing to the gym will find themselves slipping back into their comfortable
realities in months or even weeks. Stating this fact should not be used as an
excuse not to try. It should be used as a motivating kick in the posterior to
avoid becoming part of the majority. If you are new to exercise or a little
out of shape, start slowly to allow your body to adjust. Progress to more intense
activities when you feel ready. Check out the Group Exercise schedule for classes
that fit your need and interest.
