I am pleased to announce that David Blaschka has been hired to replace Val
Collins as the Fitness/Massage Director. He and Val will be coordinating duties
until she leaves March 31, 2008.
Jerry Conrad, head tennis pro, has completed two eye operations in the past
month. At the time this article was written there was every reason to believe
his operations are successful.
At least two members, Jennise Mendoza and Marjanne Pearson, read my Message
last month and their responses were quite helpful. Ms. Mendoza has an interest
in stuffing our newsletters, Ms. Pearson suggested the club shift the task online.
Frankly, the online shift is in the works and has been under consideration for
ome time. The trick, for us, is getting it right and complete - statements,
newsletters, updates, etc. Hopefully we'll Have this solved by the end of the
year. Evaluation of softwear is underway.
Initially, we anticipate about 25% of the membership will not be interested
in online transmissions for various reasons. The sample program I've reviewed
looks very user friendly. If it looks that way to me, the rest of you will be
in nana land, because I am quite a novice. However, we will continue to provide
service to the those who wish the hard paper method. Our guess is demand for
hard copy will fade over the next couple of years and, eventually, be replaced
with entirely by a paperless, instantaneous, online process. More on this subject
in the following months. T
hanks for your cooperation during the repairs and painting to the Ladies Adult
Restroom and the heating of the family locker/restroom areas. Coming up are
repairs to the parking lot (mentioned in earlier newsletters). Weather is a
big factor with this work, but a contractor has been hired and you will see
fresh asphalt soon. Parking will be a mess during these improvements - totally
unavoidable; so, please bear with us again (should last about three days). Parking
lot slurry sealing and striping will have to wait until late Spring or early
Summer as weather conditions must be perfect and predictable (another couple
of days).
Once again, USTANORCAL leagues are starting in March. Join a team today, if
you haven't already. There's St. Pat's Night, too, on March 15. Sign up and
have some fun, good food and great fellowship.
Correction: I apologize for an error in the February newsletter. The discount
for paying a years dues in advance is 8.3%, the equivalent of one months free
dues, instead of the 5% stated. All discounts granted reflected the actual rate,
not the one quoted. There is no need to contact the bookkeeper. Thanks for your
support. Cordially, Oakland Hills Tennis Club, Inc. Jim Thompson, President

I hope to be back on the courts around the time this newsletter gets to you
Both eyes are doing better but they are still sensitive to the light and out
of focus. I can't wait to get out on the court and make my students sweat!
The summer camp brochures have been mailed early with the hope that anyone who
is interested in participating will have plenty of time to figure out which
dates work. This camp is a great way for your children to start learning about
tennis or keep your kids developing their skills. Juniors ages 6-16 are welcome
to come on out and enjoy themselves. We teach skills ranging from absolute beginner
to high intermediate. Please pick up a brochure at the front desk of call me
to send one to you in the mail. My phone number is 510-262-9955 or email me
at jerryconrad27@yahoo.com.
Congratulations to Barry Weiss and Colin Forth for winning the Chabot Canyon

Dear Members, The time has come for me to write my last newsletter. After over
14 very happy years at OHTC, it's time for me to move on--literally.
My husband and I (as most of you know, if you read The President's Message in
Feb. newsletter) are relocating to the Hawaiian islands, which has been our
dream for many years. We will reside in Oahu. It has been my sincere pleasure
to know you and to have had the fortune to befriend a few of you. I want to
take this opportunity to say mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for supporting
all the classes, programs and therapies within the fitness and massage programs.
Due to your participation, and the trust and support I received from the Thompson
family, this has truly been my "dream job". I would like to offer my ho'omaika'i
(congratulations) to my successor, David Blaschka. David has been my valuable
assistant for 8 years & is a great asset to the Club.
Many of you have already had the pleasure of meeting and working with him. For
those of you who don't yet know him, be assured you will be very well taken
care of. He offers experience, knowledge & a sincere concern for your well being.
Pomaika'i David! (Good luck!) Members, I wish you all good health and much success
in your lives. Aloha and a hui hou kakou! (Affectionate goodbye, until we meet
again)
Val Collins ps please see bulletin board for March fitness & massage specials
& healthy recipes (extra copies made for you to take home).

Spring time is magical and dynamic. As nature move out of the cold, wet winter
toward spring, the pulse of life quickens, the earth warms, and blossoms unfurl,
reaching for the sun. Now it's time to renew and transform and be inspired by
the natural world going through a rebirth. It's time to shed our "winter coat":
accumulated weight gain and general lethargy. We can achieve this by becoming
more physically active and eating lighter foods. Successful transformation rarely
happens with a quick fix. Consistent vigorous physical activity and healthy
food choices are the only way to decrease our body fat percentage. As Jack LaLanne
used to say "Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen, put them together and you
have a Kingdom." Go for a jog, lift weights, attend group exercise classes and
your winter coat will be gone.
