Year's Dues in Advance

dues. No discounts will be given after February 10. Year's dues paid in advance
is not refundable. Call our bookkeeper to make arrangements.
Buyer's Club
From February 1, 2010 through January 31, 2011, you may belong to OHTC's Buyer's
Club. For $100 per year, you may purchase any apparel from the Pro Shop for

President's Message
You got it right, we're holding the line on dues in 2010 - no increase. Maximize
on this decision by paying a years dues in advance and rack up an 8.3% savings
(pay 11 months dues for 12 months of service). In these bleak times it is good
business to save everywhere you can, and this is big savings. Warning! This
offer expires February 10, 2010, 5:00 PM. Soon you should see our campaign poster
in the entryway. We are asking your help in generating 100 new memberships before
our drawing on August 1, 2010, our 35th Anniversary. With 1,100 memberships,
only 9% of you need to come through for us to hit our goal. Your reward if we
make it, a chance to win up to $10,000.00. A sponsoring member will get a ticket
for each of the 100 sponsorships, giving you at least a 1 in 100 chance of winning
- no better odds anywhere else. If we don't meet our goal we'll prorate the
prize - there will be a drawing. See the rules at the lobby for full details.
Of course, you still receive a months dues waved for each sponsored member who
joins. A great deal all around. We continue to be haunted by mechanical failures.
When the heater went down for the spa in December, I knew the main pool heater
couldn't be far behind as they were all installed the same time. Fortunately,
by planning ahead, I had my installers all lined up. That's the good news. The
bad news is the main pool heater failed before I could put the plan into action.
By the time you receive this message all will have been replaced with things
back to normal. Depending on anything mechanical is always a challenge. Mechanical
devices are not the only thing cracking up, we have severe cracking on several
courts. A contract is in the process to redo 5 courts and patch a 6th. Work
is anticipated in April or May, as good weather is critical for a good job.
Unfortunately, a little more disruption, but it is worth it. Unfortunately,
our crab feed didn't pan out this year. This is always one of our hottest events
but there was a paucity of sign ups and we had to pull the plug, scuttling the
event. While we will make a lot of crabs happy this year, we expect a lot of
hungry members to return next year. We'll leave the light on for you! Sorry
about the editorial error in the January newsletter. We were not quoting 2008
dues, we were quoting 2010 dues, which are the same as 2009. Mea culpa! The
club is anxious to produce social events you will respond to. If you have any
ideas you would like to share, please contact Rosina Cortesi, Social Director,
at rtcortesi@sbcglobal.net. Cordially, Oakland Hills Tennis Club, Inc. Jim Thompson,

Juniors interested in learning tennis can join the after school tennis clinics
that I run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Tuesday clinic is for beginners and
advanced beginners. We meet from 4-530 each Tuesday for ten weeks. The focus
for these kids is simply how to hit with good form. The Wednesday clinic is
for the more advanced junior interested in competitive tennis. We meet from
4-5:30 and also have matches on Friday afternoons from 4-6 pm. This class will
primarily try to develop solid footwork to the ball and consistent form under
pressure. These classes start on February 2nd and 3rd. Please call me or Email
me if you have any questions. My phone number is 262-9955 or Email me at jerryconrad27@yahoo.com.
With the start of the year, I have a few slots open for lessons. If you want
a lesson or a series of lesson, please feel free to give me a call. If I can't
fit my schedule with yours, please call the assistants and I am sure we can
take care of your needs. Bill Merida can be reached at 482-0645 or Jan Brogan
at janbrogan@yahoo.com. I will be sending out the summer camp brochure in the
coming weeks. I plan on starting in mid June with five two-week sessions. As
always, I offer a one-week clinic for those families that have busy summer schedules.

refers to three posterior thigh muscles, or the tendons that make up the borders
of the space behind the knee. Anatomically, they refer to the posterior thigh
muscles or the tendons of the semitendinosis, the semimembranosis, and the biceps
femoris (long and short head). The three 'true' hamstrings cross both the hip
and knee joint and are therefore involved in knee flexion and hip extension.
The function of the hamstring: The hamstrings cross and act upon two joints
- the hip and the knee. The hamstrings play a crucial role in many daily activities;
such as walking, running, jumping, and controlling some movement in the trunk.
For more information on the hamstrings, including; stretches and exercises;
please check out the Fitness Board in the hallway and the Weight Room Board.

Luciana Fair, Director
As we recently welcomed the New Year, we find ourselves assessing our resolutions.
Classes have been packed for the past month, let's keep the momentum going by
being SMART about our goals. SMART is an acronym that has many different meanings.
I encourage you to think about the things in your life that you would like to
change. Jot down your thoughts using this SMART goal model to help you create
a plan of action that works for you...so that you too, can see your dreams become
reality. *S Specific: what do you want? Be specific; your goals should be straightforward
and emphasize what you want to happen. For example :" I want to feel full of
energy from the time I wake up, until the time I crawl into bed."*M Meaningful:
why is it important to make this change now? The reason to change (motivator)
must be strong enough to carry you through the change process. For example:
" I want to make changes in my lifestyle so that I have energy at the end of
the day for my children."*A Action Oriented: what actions are you going to take
to make your goal become a reality? Write down 3 things you can do to start
you on your journey. For example: 1. Walk around my building for 30 minutes
on my lunch hour everyday. 2. Eat a lunch that I have packed that is full of
fresh fruits and vegetables. 3. Be in bed by 10:30PM.*R Realistic: Am I willing
and able to do the work that it will take to reach my goal? The goal must be
"do-able". When something does not go according to plan, have a plan b in place.
For example: if there is inclement weather I will walk on the treadmill in the
gym instead."*T Timely: When will you start? Set a time frame around the actions. For
example: "I will be in bed by 10:30PM starting this Sunday." Jump ahead to December
2010. You did it. The work, time and energy that you put towards this dream
wasn't always easy. One final thought and question....take a look back over
all the things you have accomplished to be here. You set goals and have realized
your dream. Now, how will you celebrate this success? Keep fit and healthy!!
