My education consisted of 250 hours, in which I studied Foot Reflexology, Thai Massage, Swedish, and Facial and Treatment Massage. I continued my education at the McKinnon Institute and the Milpitas Massage School in 2005; where I completed 620 hours advancing my education in the modalities I have already studied.
My goals of Massage Therapy are to stimulate circulation in the body to aid in healing, increase flexibility, create a sense of relaxation, and to create a balancing of the mind and body with well being and peace. I love massage and I want to help people and make them feel good. Izumi Van Cleave I received my massage training at McKinnon Institute in Oakland, CA and at National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, CA. I have been Nationally Certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork since 1995. From 1995-1998, I worked as a volunteer massage therapist for people with AIDS, HIV Positive individuals and also for women with substance abuse. I have working as a Massage Therapist at OHTC since the department opened on March 10, 1997. Recently, I am doing more Myofacial Release work because I feel it is a more effective style of releasing muscular adhesions. My goal of each session is to help my client relax tension-not only muscular, but emotional tension as well. I usually incorporate relaxation-type work into the Myofacial Release session. In my free time, I like listening and dancing to my favorite music. I also enjoy hiking, camping, and cross-country skiing. James Daviess I began massage training in 1986 at Mueler College in San Diego. My studies included Swedish massage, Acupressure, and Polarity energy balancing. In 2005 I moved to Oakland and continued with classes in Cranio-Sacral, Deep Tissue, Myofacial Release, Elders Massage, Reflexology, Chair Massage, and Advanced Swedish. These courses were taught at McKinnon Institute in Oakland, Diamond Light in Marin, and World School of Massage in San Francisco. I see an effective bodywork session as one that restores freedom of movement to the body, and reinstates a healthy life-pulse to nerves, muscles, cells, fascia, and other levels of our body-mind complex. Before doing massage my focus was meditation, and spiritual studies. I chose massage and bodywork because it was done in a deeply quiet, inward and meditative atmosphere and in addition included the physical body, extending spiritual qualities of peace, wholeness, healing, to our practical daily lives. An effective massage can leave one with a sense of spiritual center around which floats a body that is open, fluidic, efficient, with a better understanding of our many relationships in the world. My massage and bodywork ranges from Deep Tissue, to relaxing Swedish, to more "Meditative" energy balancing, adjusting each massage to meet the clients present-day needs. Studying music theory and practicing on our Yamaha grand piano is one of my favorite hobbies. My wife is a registered dietician and nutritionist. We live in Oakland with 2 parrots and 2 canaries. My modalities include: Swedish and Advanced Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofacial Release, Accupressure, Reflexology, Chair, Elder, Cranial Sacral
