OHTC offers a full service tennis program for all ages and skills.
Two full time USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association)
teaching pros offer private and group lessons seven days a week.
Adults have the option of participating in USTA
(United States Tennis Association) as well as social events and
tournaments. Juniors may play on interclub teams year round and
we offer a summer junior tennis/basketball camp (ages 6-16).
If you are a new tennis member or just
beginning to pick up tennis as a sport, we have a suggestion that
will help you meet other members and have a great time too. Why
not join one of our USTA Adult League Teams? Oakland Hills has
eleven teams that range in skills from 2.5 to 5.0 for men and
women. As a member of a team, you will be able to practice with
and meet players of similar skills. To participate, you need to
get a USTA rating this month as rosters are forming soon. The
2.5 and 3.0 women's teams are in need of players, send an email
to membership@oaklandhills.com.
Rating information can be found in the Inside Tennis magazine,
USTA office (748-7373), USTA
Internet site (www.ustanorcal.com), or call the club.
Parents with younger kids (4-6 years) can call Bill Merida (482-0645)
for information on his Pee-Wee group tennis lessons. These are
very popular with both kids and their parents.
Juniors interested in improving their tennis skills can call Jerry
to join his Tuesday or Wednesday group lessons. The Tuesday group
is for kids just starting out or with limited skills (ages 8 to
12 years). The Wednesday workout is for the junior who is ready
for competitive tennis with other clubs (all ages). All classes
meet from 4 pm to 5:30 pm for ten weeks. Cost $130.00.
Adults can play every weekend and not have to worry about setting
up their own matches. Call Bill for information and costs to join
his weekend match making service. Both men and women of all skills
have enjoyed this service as a way to improve their games and
meet other players.

Black Soled Shoes Rules:
1. Oakland Hills Tennis Club reserves the right to make the final decision
on the acceptability of any shoes that are to be worn on the tennis courts
or fitness rooms. Its decision is final and applicable to all Members,
Guests, Staff and Independent contractors.
2. All guests are required to sign a Guest Waiver Form prior to using
the facilities. By signing this agreement, guests agree to abide by club
rules
3. All shoes manufactured for tennis, and most for basketball, are acceptable
on the tennis courts except those that have black soles or are otherwise
deemed unacceptable by the club.
4. All other shoes are unacceptable including, but not limited to, street
shoes, joggin shoes, track shoes, cross training shoes and the like.
5. Front desk staff personnel will make the determination of acceptability
or unacceptability of any shoes at the time of play. If shoes are determined
to be unacceptable, player may notuse those shoes under any circumstances.
Using unacceptable shoes in defiance of a ruling by a staff person is
grounds for dismissal from the club.
6. Advanced approval of shoes: The club will gladly make a determination
of the acceptability or unacceptability of shoes anytime during normal
operating hours. This determination will be entered in the Black Soled
Shoes Log and the Black Soled Shoes List so that all affected may determine
acceptability or unacceptability of shoes. If not on the Log or List,
an advanced inspection is recommended. Once entered into the Black Soled
Shoe List that determination can be relied on.
7. Visiting teams and guests may request an advanced determination of
the acceptability or unacceptability of shoes at any time. It is recommended
that this inspection be done at least two weeks before anticipation of
playing at the club. Otherwise, that player risks a last minute determination
that may not be in his or her favor.
8. Captains of visiting teams, whose players insist on wearing unacceptable
shoes, may request that an alternate site be used. This request must be
made to the respective OHTC captain no less than two weeks in advance.
OHTC captains must accommodate the visiting captain's request provided
an acceptable alternate site and time is offered. It will be deemed appropriate
if the time is the same as the OHTC scheduled match.
9. Should the visiting captain request an alternate site and time when
more than half of the visiting team players insist on wearing unacceptable
shoes, the visiting captain must provide an acceptable site and time for
all matches, including those with acceptable shoes, so that all matches
can be played at the same venue.
10. Any affected person may appeal a staff person's decision if they think
it is unfair. An appeal is to be made to OHTC by contacting James W. Thompson,
Sr., President, Michelle Lafferty, Manager, or Rose Ann Kase, Front Desk
Manager. An appointment will be required for any appeal and their decision
will be final and unalterable.
11. Club hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM; Saturday
& Sunday, 8:00 AM to 8:00:00 PM
