President/General Manager’s Message

As I’m writing this, we’re just hours away from the Alcaraz vs. Djokovic final at the Australian Open. I have to admit, I’m pulling for the old GOAT. Djokovic is chasing Major title #25, which would move him past Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles in history. I guess I’ve reached the age where I root for the “old guy” in the finals — it gives the rest of us hope that our best days aren’t behind us yet.

Summer may feel far away, but if you’re a parent of young kids like me, you know summer planning is already in full swing. Between vacations, childcare, and camps, calendars fill up fast. The good news: Lada’s Summer Tennis Camp is now open for registration. If tennis is on your child’s radar, now’s the time. Lada’s camp currently has space for kids ages 5 and up. Registration links are live on our website (www.oaklandhills.com) and also posted in the Tennis section later in this newsletter.

And while we’re thinking ahead — Spring Swim Lesson sign-ups are also live on our website.

Woo-hoo!
Have a wonderful February!

The Aquatics Department is excited to welcome the spring season—because warmer days mean it’s time for spring swim lessons! Registration will take place through Signup Genius and can be accessed here on our website. This easy sign-up format allows families to choose the day and time that best fits their schedule. Spring lessons are offered as a 5-week package and include five 30-minute lessons held once a week at the same time each week. Semi-private lessons are available for swimmers who enjoy learning with a friend; please note that participants are responsible for finding and registering with their own partner.

This format is different from our summer swim lessons, which are designed as a one-week session and include five 30-minute lessons held at the same time every day for one week, offering a more concentrated learning experience. Pricing varies by membership and lesson type: members pay $315 for private lessons or $215 per swimmer for semi-private lessons, while non-members pay $415 for private lessons or $315 per swimmer for semi-private lessons. More information about summer lessons and everything happening in aquatics will be shared as we get closer, and we can’t wait to dive into another fun-filled season in the pool!

Group Fitness
Yulia Wynn, Director

Dear Members,
Sticking to New Year fitness resolutions isn’t about willpower—it’s about designing habits that survive real life. Here’s a practical, proven approach that actually works:

1. Make the goal small and specific
Instead of “Get fit” use “Strength train 2×/week for 30 minutes”
Start with something that feels almost too easy. Consistency beats intensity.

2. Tie workouts to an existing routine; Less thinking = more doing.
Anchor exercise to something you already do:
• Right after morning coffee
• After work, before sitting down
• Same class every Mon/Wed

3. Choose workouts you don’t dread; Enjoyment is a compliance strategy.
You don’t need the best workout—just one you’ll show up for.
• Group fitness classes
• Walking + podcasts
• Strength training with a plan
• Yoga, Pilates, dance, swimming

4. Lower the barrier on busy days; Showing up keeps the habit alive—even when life is chaotic.
Have a “minimum workout” rule:
• 10-minute walk
• 1 set of squats + pushups
• Stretching only

5. Schedule it like an appointment
Put workouts on your calendar like a meeting you don’t cancel.
Bonus: lay out clothes or pack your gym bag the night before.

6. Track progress (not just weight); Progress = motivation fuel.
Weight fluctuates—motivation dies.
Track:
• Strength gains
• Energy levels
• Mood
• Consistency streaks

7. Expect setbacks—and plan for them
Missing a week doesn’t mean failure.
Use the “never miss twice” rule:
One miss = human
Two misses = habit slipping

8. Get accountability – Accountability beats motivation every time.
• Workout buddy
• Trainer or class pass
• App or habit tracker
• Public goal (“I train Tues/Thurs”)

Please contact Tish directly over her e-mail at letitia5blacksher@gmail.com to schedule an assisted therapy stretch session. How to access our ZOOM and HYBRID classes:
