President/General Manager’s Message
Dear Members,
As we turn the page on a new year, it feels fitting to pause and reflect on what was truly a milestone year for the Oakland Hills Tennis Club. In 2025, we proudly celebrated the club’s 50th anniversary—a moment that carries special meaning not just for our community today, but for the generations of members and families who have helped shape OHTC since its founding. While we were ultimately forced to cancel the planned 50th Anniversary
pool party due to the overlapping sewer line repairs and solar project, the celebration is far from forgotten. We are fully committed to hosting a belated anniversary celebration this coming summer, and we look forward to marking the occasion properly when conditions allow.
One of the most significant achievements of the year came on December 31, 2025, when our solar project officially passed its final inspection with the City of Oakland. While we still expect roughly another month before PG&E grants permission to turn the system on, reaching this milestone is a major win—and one worth celebrating. As many of you have heard over the past two years, this project has been a long and complex journey. Looking ahead, there are still two additional phases planned: battery storage for the system and EV chargers in the upper parking lot. We are actively pushing to move those phases forward, but we want to be
transparent that we are not yet in a position to promise specific timelines.
On the social side, December ended on a high note with our Holiday Party on December 13th. The turnout was fantastic, the energy was high, and the band Sausalito truly brought the house down. It was a wonderful reminder of how special this community is and how much joy there is in simply coming together.
As we look ahead to 2026, our commitment remains the same: to serve you, our members. We will continue focusing on maintaining and improving our facilities while doing our best to respond to your needs and feedback along the way. There are many improvements we hope to bring to fruition, and we are grateful for your patience and support as we work toward those goals. We are looking forward to another year together!

Happy to year! We had a stellar attendance at our Annual Holiday Party. Thanks to everyone made the party a success. Our member led band, Sausalito did not disappoint as there were good vibes and the dancefloor was packed. Many thanks to David and Soo Choi who served up delicious bites for our enjoyment. We appreciate
everyone who came out to celebrate with us! Santa Arrived and all of the kiddos were able to get their list in just in time.
We have a one night only intimate and private performance from our Social Director, Miko Hawkins also know as MIKO MARKS. Please join us on us February 21 at 7pm for a night of music and a no host bar.
Rolling Stone calls Miko Marks’ voice a “marvelous instrument that imbues each song with a kind of hard-won authority,” noting that her music is “connecting the dots between Sharon Jones, the Allman Brothers Band, and Dolly Parton.” Since re-emerging in 2021 after a
long hiatus, Miko has released 3 new albums, toured multiple times with Little Feat, opened several shows for the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and been featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame’s American Currents exhibit. Now, fresh off her 4th Grand Ole Opry appearance, Miko comes back home for a private event at her beloved Oakland Hills Tennis Club. This concert will be a one-
time opportunity to see this world-class talent right in your own back yard. The performance will be at the club from 6-7:30pm on Feb. 21st. Tickets are $75. Seating is limited so get yours now!
I am the person to contact, via email, regarding Pool Party reservations. Reservations can be made 60 days in advance. We tend to have a busy pool party season during the summer so It’s Important to follow protocol and get your reservation contracts In as It Is on a first come first serve basis. Dear Members,
How Do You Make New Year’s Resolutions and Actually Stick to Them?
Ah, New Year’s resolutions—the grand promises we make after too much holiday pie and just before reality kicks in. The tricky part? Actually sticking to them beyond January 15th. But don’t worry, I’ve got your back with a foolproof plan to turn those goals into habits that actually last.
1. Keep It Realistic (No, You’re Not Becoming a Billionaire by March)
Dream big, but keep it real. Instead of saying, “I’m going to run a marathon,” start with, “I’ll jog three times a week.” The key is breaking big goals into small, doable steps that don’t make you want to give up by week two.
2. Be Specific: Vague Goals Are Doomed Saying, “I want to get healthier” is like saying, “I want to be cooler.” What does that even mean? Instead, try something like, “I’ll eat veggies with every meal” or “I’ll hit the gym twice a week.” Clarity = success.
3. Write It Down (Yes, Really)
There’s something about writing down your goals that makes them feel legit. Stick them somewhere you’ll see every day—bathroom mirror, fridge, or even as your phone wallpaper. Think of it as your daily reminder to stay awesome.
4. Make It Fun
If your resolution feels like a chore, you won’t stick to it. Want to exercise more? Try dance classes or hiking instead of forcing yourself onto a treadmill. Want to save money? Turn it into a game by tracking your “no-spend” days. Fun goals = sustainable goals.
5. Find an Accountability Buddy
It’s harder to skip a workout when your friend is waiting for you. Partner up with someone who’ll keep you in check
(and maybe call you out when you try to bail). Bonus: shared goals are more fun!
6. Celebrate Small Wins (Without Self-Sabotaging)
Every step forward is progress, so give yourself credit. Stuck to your budget for a month? Treat yourself to something small—just don’t blow your savings on a luxury handbag.
7. Don’t Fear Failure—Learn From It
Missed a workout? Ate a whole cake? It’s okay. Slip-ups happen. What matters is bouncing back and learning from them. Progress isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence.
8. Track Your Progress
Apps, journals, or even a simple checklist can work wonders. Seeing your progress builds momentum and keeps you motivated. Plus, who doesn’t love checking things off a list?
9. Focus on the “Why”
Why do you want this resolution? Whether it’s being healthier for your kids or saving for your dream trip, keeping your “why” front and center gives you a powerful reason to stay on track.
10. Start Small, Dream Big
You don’t need to overhaul your life on January 1st. Small, consistent steps lead to massive changes over time. Start
with one or two resolutions, nail those, and build from there.
The Bottom Line Making resolutions is easy. Sticking to them? That’s where the magic happens. Focus on being consistent, celebrate
progress, and remember: it’s not about changing your life overnight—it’s about building habits that last all year (and beyond).
Your turn! What’s your top New Year’s resolution?

A Note as We Wrap Up the Year
As we close out the year, it’s been really rewarding to see how active the tennis community has become. There are more USTA teams, more organized play, and more activity on the courts than ever, and it’s great to see members connecting with one another through the game.
One of the most satisfying parts has been watching players grow — from beginners picking up a racquet for the first time to players now competing confidently at more advanced levels. Tennis has a way of bringing people together while helping everyone improve at their own pace, and it’s been exciting to see that happening every day
at the club.
My goal is to continue building on this momentum and expand our programs even further in 2026, creating more opportunities for players of all levels to learn, play, and enjoy tennis together.
What’s New & Coming Up
As we head into the new year, we’re looking forward to introducing several updates and additions to our tennis programming:
– New beginner adult tennis clinics designed for players who are new to the game or returning after time away
– Monthly beginner tennis workshops focusing on fundamentals, technique, and understanding the game.
– Summer Tennis Camp 2026 information coming soon
– A new registration platform being tested for both summer camp and after-school programs to improve organization and communication.
